Caleb McLaughlin, starring as Lucas Sinclair in the Netflix science fiction hit drama Stranger Things, is having an amazing start to 2017. The young star, who is back at it with his cast and crew as they work on season two of the Golden Globe nominated show, took out time from his busy schedule to attend Hollywood’s kick-off to the awards season. McLaughlin, along with his cast mates and industry friends, had the opportunity to not only enjoy the awards show, but they had a night to remember as they celebrated in grand style at The Weinstein Company and Netflix Golden Globes party, which was presented in conjunction with Landmark Vineyards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 8th in Beverly Hills, CA.

McLaughlin, born October 13, 2001, is a native New Yorker whose career began on Broadway as the Young Simba in the musical The Lion King. Studying dance at The Harlem School of the Arts, (HSA), under Aubrey Lynch, former Lion King Producer and Director of Dance at HSA, McLaughlin began to fine-tune his acting skills. Since then, through his portrayal as Lucas Sinclair, it is without a doubt that this rising star is well-beyond fine-tuning to becoming a full-fledged star, opening the doors for his next big project, BET’s upcoming biopic—The New Edition Story, debuting January 24-26. In this three-night event, McLaughlin will portray Ricky Bell.
“It’s cool to play a smooth cool character,” McLaughlin tells EW about his role. “He’s very smart, very laid back. Nothing bothered him…[But] it’s Ricky before he became confident in himself.” And yes, McLaughlin does get to exercise his vocal skills in the miniseries. “Singing is always fun to do. But when I sing, I really mean it,” he comments. “So, instead of worrying about the cameras around me and what people think, I had to really get into a place of being Ricky and singing like him.”
We cannot wait to see what is next for McLaughlin. It definitely looks like 2017 is going to be his year!
