There was only one diva at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, and his name was Anthony Anderson. The Black-ish star’s kids commented on him being over-the-top during Anderson’s red carpet interview with ET Online.
Anthony invited his kids to join him in the spotlight where he re-introduced them to correspondent Kevin Frazier at the awards show. “I’ve met your children before,” Kevin told Anthony before informing him that he was “rooting” for Anthony to win an Emmy last year.
“Are you rooting for me tonight,” Anthony asked. “I hope not because you rooted for me at the Emmys and look what happened. Keep it to yourself,” the actor quipped.
The celebrity father’s comedic side had to share its space with Anderson’s dramatic antics leading up to the Golden Globes. Anthony was nominated for an award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy and he was definitely taking full liberties as a candidate.
“He’s been extra loud today, which I think is a sign of him being nervous,” the star’s son, Nathan, told media. Kyra, Anthony’s daughter, agreed and added that Anthony was “a little bit” diva-ish.
“I took my son to get his first pedicure today,” Anderson said in his defense. “How am I being a diva,” he asked.
Anthony certainly enjoys his role as Dre Johnson on ABC’s hit series Black-ish. “This is one of the few characters I’ve gotten to portray where it’s really me—it’s Anthony up there, just disguised as Andre Johnson,” the star said during an interview with Deadline. “It’s my sensibilities, my wit, my humor, the way I interact with my children. That’s the closest to me that I’ve been able to portray on television and film and I’m really enjoying that ride.”
Anthony Anderson is the proud father of two kids. Kyra celebrates her milestone twenty-first birthday this year.
