PJ and Derrick Rose are getting in quality time on the court. The father and son were photographed while playing basketball before the game. “I got next,” PJ captioned underneath of his pics on Instagram.
At just 4-years-old, PJ Rose is the inspiration behind a children’s book. Chicago State University professor Kim L. Dulaney and Howard University student Maya Reese have collaborated to create PJ’s Shy-Town that focuses on the personality of Derrick Rose and Mieka Reese’s son.
The setting of the book is Chicago and the central character is the epitome of cool. Readers get to see the beloved Windy City through the eyes of a 4-year-old who is vibrant and surrounded by love. Culture and family are two of many themes addressed in PJ’s Shy-Town.
“The essence of the city we love still exists,” Professor Dulaney says of her and Maya Reese’s creation. “It gets overshadowed by all the negative press. We wanted to give voice to the people and culture that contribute to Chicago’s unique appeal and incredible legacy.”
Maya, who is PJ’s aunt, also comments on the collaboration. “PJ is a happy kid. He loves Chicago,” she says of the book’s inspiration. “That’s what we wanted to share with other children — this city and PJ’s infectious joy as he grows up here.”
It was around this time last year that PJ was making his entryway into the fashion industry. Bullies Brand placed PJ’s popular meme on their t-shirts. The youngster’s unique expression took came to notoriety after PJ accompanied his father to an after-game press conference. Although he did not verbally express his opinions about the game’s outcome, his father’s team lost, PJ did not hesitate to let his face do the talking.
