The Variety Studio: Actors on Actors event was held this past weekend and Viola Davis brought her daughter, Genesis, along for the adventure. The actress joined Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams and others in discussing intricate parts of Hollywood.
Genesis had the opportunity to see her mom in action as the Fences star shared words of wisdom about life and show business.
Viola has not been one to hold her tongue when it comes to choices behind-the-scenes in Tinseltown. She told media last year that self-awareness is a big part of being an entertainer.
“It’s all about the choices you make,” she told The Guardian. “What I mean by that is the choice of how you look, how you do your hair, how you choose to show your body. If the writer says: ‘What do you think?’, well, what are you telling them?”
Davis is certainly focused on conveying the powerful message of self-love to her daughter, which is why she does not purchase Barbie dolls for Genesis. “I don’t want her to begin to create images throughout her life featuring women that do not look like her at all that she puts too much value in,” she told ESSENCE earlier this year. “I want Genesis to know that her values are within,” Viola added.
Fans of Viola will get to see her camaraderie at the Variety Studio: Actors on Actors event later this month. Genesis is Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon’s only child.
