It’s official. Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are expecting a child. Janet shares the joyous news of her expectancy exclusively with PEOPLE.
“We thank God for our blessing,” she says. A source close to the Pop singer adds, “She is super excited about her pregnancy and is doing extremely well. She actually feels very good about everything.”
Fans expected that Janet was undergoing IVF treatment back in April when the artist canceled the second part of her ‘Unbreakable’ world tour. “We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,” Jackson told fans. “My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.”
It was just a few weeks ago that Janet was spotted out and about in London. An eyewitness told ET that the singer was surrounded by bodyguards and assistants as she made her way into a baby furniture store. “Jackson was greeted by staff, who shut the doors for her visit and seated her at a table to seemingly go over some of their merchandise,” according to the media source.
Pregnancy is certainly a dream come true for Jackson who has a career in show business that spans more than forty years. “I’d love to have a family,” she said during an interview with Access Hollywood several years back. “But really, it’s in God’s hands. So, if it’s meant to be, I’ll have one. I hope it does.”
Janet also told CNN in 2011 that she hoped motherhood would fit her well. “[People would tell me], ‘You’re very nurturing. You’re very mothering and you take care of people all the time.’ And yada, yada, yada. And so, I don’t know.”
Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are expecting their first child to arrive in coming weeks. Janet celebrated her fiftieth birthday in May.
