La La Anthony and her son, Kiyan, were two of many stars in attendance at the 20th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival on Saturday. The event included a screening of New Edition: The Movie at AMC Empire 25 theater in New York City.
Anthony is one of the co-stars in the film. The celebrity mom portrays Ronnie DeVoe’s mother, Flo DeVoe, alongside Yvette Nicole Brown and Monica Calhoun who are Michael Bivins and Ralph Tresvant’s mothers, respectively.
BET plans to roll out the three-part miniseries next year. New Edition: The Movie will give fans an inside look at the group that impacted the music industry to no end. From their humble beginnings as a group in Boston to their fame as solo artists, New Edition helped define a generation. The group won several awards during their peak of success in the 1980s and came together to accept the Soul Train Music Special Lifetime Achievement in 2012.
New Edition: The Movie is set to premiere on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Kiyan is La La and Carmelo Anthony’s only child.
