Toni Braxton and her sons, Diezel and Denim, attended the 2016 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards on Thursday. The event was held at Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
It was just a few weeks ago that Braxton told fans that her son, Diezel, was no longer autistic. “Early diagnosis changes everything,” the celebrity mom said. “My son Diezel was off the spectrum being autistic,” she added. “[He has] no signs of autism [now]. No signs. He’s our social butterfly. He’s the one who plays with friends and hangs out all the time. I’m very, very fortunate.”
Toni and Diezel’s fortune did not come without a bit of heartache. Braxton shared her frustration in 2006 when Diezel began showing signs of autism and doctors refused to take her seriously. “They dismissed me,” Tony exclaimed. “I don’t know if it would have made a difference or not for him to be diagnosed earlier, but they had a ‘wait and see’ attitude. It makes me so angry because a mother knows when something is wrong with her child.”
The singer was able to receive the help that she needed after Suzanne Wright learned of Diezel’s condition. “She called me immediately and said, ‘Get him in this program, do this, do that,'” Braxton said.
Toni Braxton is the proud mother of two kids. Diezel celebrated his thirteenth birthday in March. Denim turns 15-years-old in December.
