Yara Shahidi and Zendaya Coleman were two of many stars to attend the 2016 Essence Black Women in Music event on Thursday. The event was held at Avalon in Hollywood and featured a number of industry greats onstage.
Zendaya and Yara impressed photographers on the red carpet before entering the venue. Miss Coleman rocked an edgy outfit with knee-high boots that served as the finishing touch to her outerwear.
Yara also made a sort of statement on the red carpet as she wore a dress that bore the word, “caution” around the waist area. The ‘Black-ish’ star placed a hand on her hip while posing for photographers.
Both Shahidi and Coleman are courageous and outspoken. The teens often address social issues while allowing their confidence to serve as inspiration to other girls. “I want to promote to young people that it’s okay to be a good citizen,” Zendaya said during a recent interview with New You. “It’s okay to learn. It’s cool to be knowledgeable, to know what’s going on in your country and your world. To form opinions and to talk about it, have discussions and be respectful. I’m trying to make that the new cool.”
Christina Milian and Queen Latifah were also in attendance at this year’s Essence Black Women in Musi event. You can catch Yara Shahidi on the hit ABC series ‘Black-ish’ and hear Zendaya when her forthcoming album debuts in coming months.
