When Al Roker’s son, Nicholas, wasn’t developing like other children his age ten years ago, the celebrity father began to worry.
“When you’re parents and there’s something not right with your child, sometimes you can almost freeze, because it’s so overwhelming,” says Roker. “He had a lot of issues. He didn’t talk. He couldn’t walk. He had very low body core musculature. And you know, a lot of people were not positive about his outlook.”
Nicholas was three at the time, and Al was at his wits end in terms of helping his son. It was then that the television personality sought assistance from an occupational therapist named Lori Rotham. “Some kids are 50-piece puzzles, some kids are 100-piece, some kids are 150. I think Nicky is about 150, if I was to look at Nicky,” says Rotham. Her positive attitude aided in the treatment process.
“This past June, he got his black belt in tae kwon do,” shares Roker. “I can honestly say that Nick is where he is today because of her help. And for that, I can’t thank her enough.”
Al Roker is the proud parent of two children.
