Taye Diggs is getting ready for Christmas with his son, Walker, by his side. The actor was spotted while shopping with his little one at The Grove in Los Angeles earlier this week.
Taye’s girlfriend, Amanda Smith Brown, accompanied the father and son. The model held one of Walker’s hands while Taye latched on to the other.
Diggs has been working hard to promote his latest children’s book, Mixed Me. The star crafted the literary work in honor of his son, who is biracial. “I drew from what I knew from my friends who were mixed and what I was seeing was happening to my son,” says Taye of the writing process. “One of the main points for my son growing up was people reacting to his hair and commenting on it. Even when people would come at him with a positive energy, he would still see it as a foreign energy. He didn’t necessarily want that attention, people pointing at him and wanting to touch him.”
Although Walker is not affected by comments pertaining to race at present, Taye knows that the day will come when the subject of cultural differences arises. “I know that at some point, someone is going to say something to him that will be off-color or challenge him to either stand up for himself or draw up some boundaries,” shares the actor.
