Just call Darius Kaleb a rising star. The teen is featured in the upcoming film STEPS, which highlights a number of issues that inner city residents face. The movie addresses alcoholism, gang influence and gun violence that often causes youth to stray from their goals in life. Darius plays a big role in the movie as the events that take place are centered around his character’s family.
Eddie Harris, screenwriter of the film, tells media that it was his pleasure to bring urban issues to the big screen. “Some people don’t see the beauty of the inner city,” shares the writer. “They just see the pain. I wanted to tell this very real story because I saw the redemption that often gets overlooked. I knew it would resonate not only with the people who live it every day, but people from all walks of life.”
Also featured in the film are young stars Eden Duncan-Smith(Annie) and Khalil Middleton(The Naked Brothers Band).
BCK had the opportunity to see this film on Thursday and it was indeed a touching and heart-wrenching story. Be on the lookout for STEPS in the very near future.
