Motherhood has changed everything for Tia Mowry-Hardrict, including her diet. The actress and Cooking Channel sensation tells the Daily News that she has become a healthier eater since becoming a parent.
“I became a vegetarian for about maybe a year,” says the star of her nutritional habits. “It was more of a little detox for me. I tend to do a lot of detoxes. I was on the Body Ecology Diet before I got pregnant, which I believe is one of the reasons I was able to get pregnant. I have something called endometriosis, and I was told by my gynecologist that I needed to go on a specific diet if I didn’t want to have any more surgery. I saw how detoxing can have huge benefits for your health so I decided to do that with veganism.”
Although she is “no longer a vegan,” Tia does implement healthy practices when cooking for her family. “I really enjoy making breakfast and dinner,” shares the actress. “I make these bomb pancakes, but they’re healthy. I make them with banana and egg and oatmeal. So instead of using white flour, this is a delicious alternative.”
Tia further explains, “I don’t like to eat a lot of processed foods. So it’s fresh vegetables, fresh herbs and meat without all of the antibiotics and preservatives. But it’s not like, ‘Ugh, God! She’s so healthy. I can’t do that.’ It’s relatable.”
Tia and husband Cory Hardrict are the proud parents of one son. Cree will celebrate his fourth birthday on June 28, 2015. See more pictures of the little one with mom in New York City below!
