You know of Yara Shahidi from her role on the hit series Black-ish but did you know that she is kin to Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones? Yep, that’s right! Nas and Yara are related. The young star tells Fuse’s White Guy Talk Show how she learned that her cousin was famous.
“I think what was always weird to me is realizing that he was famous,” says Yara. “In my head I was like, ‘He’s a great rapper, and he’s pretty good if I say so myself.’ I would [talk to] people and whenever it would come up in a conversation I was like, ‘Oh yeah, you might have heard of him. Um, my cousin’s Nasir, um, Nas.’ And they’d be like, ‘Oh, I have.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, that’s so cool.'”
Yara further explains that she did not know that Nas was a celebrity until she was 10-years-old. “I didn’t know that a lot of people listen to him,” shares the star. “I thought that he just knew a ton of people.”
