Perhaps the Easter portrait that received the most attention this year was that of the Obamas. The first family shared a picture of themselves posing in the yard of the White House on Sunday.
Sasha and Malia were wearing festive colors in the candid. The two were standing beside their parents, with Sasha resting in her father’s embrace. Malia found her place beside mom while smiling for the camera. Both of the family’s dogs were also captured in the photo. How cute!
The Obamas spent their Easter Sunday morning at the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. The church has a long-standing history in the community that dates back to Thomas Jefferson’s presidency. President and First Lady Obama, along with their daughters, were welcomed with open arms as congregants gave resounding applause upon the family’s arrival. “This is not selfie time,” the church’s pastor mused. “Let the brother worship in the house of God.”
President Obama released a statement in honor of holy week a few days ago. “Michelle and I join our fellow Christians around the world in observing Good Friday and celebrating Easter this weekend,” said the president. “With humility and awe, we give thanks for the extraordinary sacrifice that Jesus made for our salvation.”
