President Obama still loves going home for the holidays. This weekend the first family arrived in Hawaii for their annual family holiday, marking the president’s sixth trip to his home state since taking up office in January of 2009.
CBS news reports that the President is a creature of habit, holding a very predictable routine and frequenting favourite spots while in Hawaii. Former Obama spokesperson Bill Burton stated in 2010 that “Like most Americans, the president knows what he likes in his own hometown…
He’s been going to a lot of these places since he was a very young child and they hold an important place in his life.” While on his winter vacation, one can expect President Obama to spend his mornings working out at the local Marine Corps Base and many afternoons on the golf court with a rotating door of friends.
The First Family also has a habit of renting the same house in Kailua each year. Hiking, snorkelling, and enjoying shaved ice (a local snow-cone treat) from Island Snow are just a few activities the family counts on during their winters away. The two-week vacations are usually interrupted by crises and urgent matters, but it seems safe to say that the President is able to show the family a good time while he can.
