LeBron James is pretty liberal when it comes to letting his kids pursue their passions. The NBA star has, however, placed boundaries when it comes to the boys playing certain sports.
“Only basketball, baseball and soccer are allowed in my house,” says James. “We don’t want them to play [football and hockey] in our household right now until they understand how physical and how demanding the game is. Then they can have their choice in high school, we’ll talk over it,” explains the star. “Right now there’s no need for it. There’s enough sports they can play. They play basketball, they play soccer, they play everything else but football and hockey.”
LeBron isn’t the only celebrity who has spoken out about the physical contact involved with football. Holly Robinson-Peete and other stars have also talked about the life-altering injuries that football players are susceptible to every time they hit the field.
“It’s a safety thing,” says James. “As a parent you protect your kids as much as possible.” The star athlete further explains, “I needed a way out. My kids don’t need a way out. They’re all right.”
LeBron and wife Savannah James have three kids together.
