It was a Ross family event at the grand re-opening of Books and Cookies. The children’s bookstore is owned by Chudney Ross, who celebrated with her mother, Diana Ross, and her daughter, Callaway, by her side – along with so many others.
The soul legend told Us Weekly that her daughter’s shop is so much more than the run-of-the-mill book store. “Chudney has created a nurturing environment and a loving environment where learning takes place,” Diana explained.
The event certainly reflected that sentiment. Reading was in abundance, of course, but kids were also decorating dresses, having their faces painted, and munching on cookies from Magnolia Bakery.
Some of Chudney’s many siblings were also in attendance.
Sister Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) was there, and even took the time to reflect on their brother’s recent nuptials. Evan Ross and pop-star Ashlee Simpson tied the knot this summer, extending the family and making the actor a new step-dad. “The wedding was fantastic!” Tracee exclaimed.
Evan and Ashlee were also at the celebration, with her son Bronx by their side. A big-reader, the five-year-old must have been thrilled to be included in the festivities. “He reads every night!” Ashlee noted. Doing her part for her new sister-in-law, she added, “we brought two bags of books of his to donate today.”
Chudney expressed her gratitude for everyone’s big show of support, “It’s so important to have my family here. My family is number one.”
