China Anne McClain is only 15 years old, but she has already spent more than half of her life in the entertainment business. She’s learned a lot along the way and what’s especially important to her is being able to reset at any point to keep herself mentally, physically, and spiritually well. “I’ve had to press reset just to enjoy my childhood and stay above the craziness.”
The young actress told Madame Noir that many of her peers in the industry are “growing up super fast and are one second from being a news headline. I don’t want that to be my story.” She added, “You would be surprised how many folks are running around without a chaperone in the business.” China is not one of them though. Her parents are always nearby to help her navigate the challenges of Hollywood.
China’s mentor, Brandy Norwood, offered her the best advice she can recall. She told her to never let the industry and the things people say get inside her head. “I can’t control the negativity that comes with the business,” China explained. “Even though I am young, there are so many people who smile in your face and simply want you to fail.”
Recognizing how much her parents gave to support her dreams, China refuses to let any of it go to waste. Being an actress takes a lot of hard work, but she says by staying motivated by her goals, and not dwelling on the obstacles, we can accomplish anything. “My advice is not to think about the challenges but to put all your energy into the outcome and reward.”
