At only 5 years old, Pharrell Williams’s son with his designer wife Helen Lasichanh, Rocket, is already living up to his peculiar name, given to him for his parents’ high hopes for a successful ‘reach the sky’ future. “My son teaches me,” Pharrell explains of his tech-savvy boy. He reiterated, “It’s crazy, he teaches me [about video games and the latest gizmos and gadgets].”
While Rocket might be shaping up to be something of a genius, his acute awareness of new technologies is also indicative of this generation as a whole, growing up in what seems to be the fastest growing tech-age yet. We may not have teleporting tubes and flying cars (The Jetsons were wrong there), but how quickly the digital age progresses is nothing short of astounding.
The notion that a 5 year old can teach a 41 year old about technology, while becoming more common place, remains surreal. “This is one of those times in your life when you’re like, ‘Think about that one interview when someone asked you a serious question,'” the musician continued with a sense of bewilderment, “and it just hit me… When you asked me about my son and my answer to you was, ‘He teaches me?'” Like, that was bizarre to me.”
A source gushed to US Weekly about how adorable Rocket is, stating, “He’s a genius already. He’s gonna be just like his parents.”
Pharell is currently set to curate the soundtrack for an upcoming official NBA video game and has turned to his son for help.
