Garcelle Beauvais children’s book series, I Am, continues this summer with I Am Living in 2 Homes, co-written by Sebastian A. Jones. The book is designed to help children whose parents are separating understand the change in their home life. While promoting the book on instagram, Gabrielle wrote “if we can help one child understand that Love is Love and Family is Family no matter the circumstance… then we’ll be happy”.
I Am Living in Two Homes is the second book of the series, preceded by I Am Mixed which was released last summer. The series, published by Stranger Comics, is meant to help children deal with a variety of issues. The inspiration came from her own three children, including a set of twins whose image is somewhat reflected in the book characters. Garcelle set out to write I Am Mixed as a way to equip her own kids with the knowledge and tools to answer awkward questions from other kids on the playground. “I didn’t want them to be asked why is your mommy brown and daddy white and not have them understand it themselves,” she explained. The actress continued, “I wanted them to know that they’re the best parts of us put together. What I wanted most of all is for them to be proud of who they are and celebrate themselves.”
As for this second book, Garcelle had this to say: “I Am Living in 2 Homes is a reflection of the honest passion we have for topics that many children are dealing with today. I personally know that it is important to open up dialogue between parents and children, so what may seem different and scary, can be dealt with in an open and gentle way. Let us start a conversation and let the healing begin.”
The book hits stores on August 19th, 2014. Pre-order today!
