Meditation is more than just humming and sitting still. At least that’s what Russell Simmons says to critics who doubt the power of being at peace.
“I meditate every morning with my kids,” says the businessman. “I meditate with them every single day and they learn to be more present because of it. They’re very happy kids, and they’re excitable, and all those things.”
Russell further explains, “This is what I’m promoting. The idea that we can be awake, and effective and productive and passionate, without being anxious and sad and worried.”
Although it can be difficult to to get children to sit still for a number of minutes, Simmons tells media that Kimora is the authoritative force who convinces Ming and Aoki to calm down. “She says, ‘Sit your [butt down],’ and they sit down.”
Russell hopes to use his book and research efforts to spread the good news about meditation to all. “I give my kids the benefit of meditation,” shares the star. “I want to put quiet time in all of the schools.” Simmons goes on to explain that children who meditate, “have a more expansive mindset. In other words, greater brain functionality…They don’t have ADD, they don’t need Ritalin. If they do have ADD, instead of Ritalin, they can have quiet time.”
