Former Fugees member Pras, full name Pras Michel, skipped a child-custody hearing on Thursday to fly to South America for the World Cup.
“Because he’s a celebrity, he doesn’t want to be here,” said Kenneth Sternberg, who is representing the mother of Pras’ three-year-old son.
In the rapper’s defense, he did try to phone in his testimony… from a coffee shop in Bogota, Colombia, but a judge denied him.
Angela Severiano, the mom in question, is asking the court to increase Michel’s monthly child-support payout from around $3,000 to $7,000.
According to Pagesix, who first broke the story, Michel posted pics on Facebook of himself on a private jet on June 10th with the caption, “#Flying #private here we come #Brazil #worldcup #worldcup 2014.”
His attorneys, however, maintain that he missed the trial because he was away on business and had tried to return to the United States but was detained by immigration.
Pras, who wrote the hit 1998 song “Ghetto Superstar”, is due back in court next month.
