It is no secret that the Obama girls want to be normal.
The First Lady has been quoted by the Chicago Defender as saying, “My kids are not star kids. They do not seek the limelight”. She continued, “We fight everyday to help them be normal. You know? Now they’re teenagers, so now there are dances, and there’s driving, and there’s homecoming, spring break”. Yes, she said “driving”.
Malia Obama will be turning 16 this summer which will mean entering the coveted teen-rite-of-passage into freedom (on the road, that is). When Mrs. Obama told Access Hollywood of Malia’s upcoming milestone she jokingly added “Look out!” as a warning to other Washington drivers. As far as security measures go, the First Lady assured host Billy Bush that she and her husband have a plan for that.
It’s all a part of growing up. As the girls prepare for summer, there is more than just driving on the docket. Mrs. Obama revealed that the girls will be attending camp and taking part in internships. When asked about dating life in the White House, the First Lady exclaimed jokingly, “You just want me to get pushed off the Truman Balcony”.
