After more than 15 years of being away Sean Combs, a.k.a. Diddy, returned to his alma mater to receive an honorary doctorate degree. The Hip Hop mogul had his family nearby as he accepted the prestigious diploma from Howard University this past weekend. Diddy also gave a speech during the commencement ceremony, which some students were opposed to since the rap star didn’t finish his studies at Howard.
Combs made reference to his decision to drop out of college after two years of attendance, telling graduates that he would have been more prepared for the corporate world had he stayed in school. “If I didn’t leave school early, I would have been more prepared,” said the rap star. Diddy told graduates that there were times in board room meetings where courses in economics would have been helpful. The entrepreneur also said that his memorandums suffered a bit in early years because he lacked a complete college education.
Still in all, Diddy thanked his family for supporting him through the years. The star gave special recognition to his mom who worked several jobs to pay school tuition. “My mother worked four jobs to send me to Howard University so I want to take this time to say, ‘Mama I love you so much, I wouldn’t be standing up here if it wasn’t for you and thank you for all of your sacrifices. I love you ma!'” All of Diddy’s kids looked on with pride as the respected businessman finished his speech and received an honorary doctorate degree in Humanities.
Sean Combs has six kids in all. The rap star’s second eldest son, Justin, currently attends the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on a football scholarship.
