Zendaya, 17, is already an inspiration to many young girls. Recently, the young star sat down with the Huffington Post, where she had the opportunity to speak about some of the issues associated with being a young star in L.A., how she handles them, and offered advice to other girls her age.
Sitting confidently, the actress and singer discussed how important it is to her to find “real people” she can connect with. She explained how the move from Oakland to L.A. was a difficult transition, especially in regards to making friends. For her, the biggest obstacle was figuring out how to get past the “characters” and get to know people on a deeper level. Although it took some time, Zendaya said that that was okay; she at least had the cast of “Shake It Up” by her side.
The starlet happily went on to discuss body image, and the importance of feeling comfortable in your own skin. “I’m skinny, and I’m tall, and I’m lanky, and for some people that could be a negative thing”. But she stands proudly at 5’10 and tells other girls with a similar frame, or any other, not to be shy of it.
Zendaya also proudly pointed out that she is trying to grow-up at a steady pace. Still a teen, she embraces the idea of enjoying her adolescence, noting that she takes her parents everywhere with her because she is not necessarily ready to be away from home. When asked about her thoughts on the difficult transition from child-star to adulthood, she thoughtfully noted the need for everyone to have their own journey of self discovery. Negative images in the media of young celebrities becoming heavily involved with alcohol and other dangerous activities are everywhere, but this young star takes on a “to each their own” approach to it, while stating that that scene just isn’t her.
Instead, this bright, talented, well-spoken teen works hard, and kicks back during her down time watching Scandal, stalking fans on Twitter, and relaxing in bed.
