Audra McDonald was just a child when she began singing and acting. Although she joined the entertainment industry to counteract her diagnosis as a hyperactive individual, McDonald has found much success in the entertainment industry since beginning her trails in Fresno, California more than a decade ago. Audra recently sat down with The Austin Chronicle to talk about her career, telling the media source that her daughter Zoe has changed her perspective on life.
“Absolutely,” said McDonald. “When you become a parent, it blows you open in ways that you never thought possible, in terms of a level of love that I know I never thought I could possibly have. I think Joan Rivers is the one who says, ‘You’re only as happy as your least happy child. That’s as happy as any parent can ever be.’ And I think that’s so true.”
Audra further explained, “As you grow older and life happens and happens to you, life becomes more precious, and people in your life become more precious. I find that I’m learning not to take things for granted as much as I used to, and also you start to prioritize what’s most important.”
McDonald performed for fans in Austin, Texas at the Long Center this past Tuesday (February 25). She has one child, Zoe, with ex-husband Peter Donovan.
