Joshua is the greatest gift in Kym Whitley’s life, which is why the actress is using her reality show, ‘Raising Whitley,’ to remove the negative thinking attached to adoption.
“I wanted to do a show that took the stigma off adoption,” said Whitney during her recent visit to the Arsenio Hall Show. “[I wanted] adopted people and children [to] know that they are loved, that they’re chosen and they’re special.”
It was just three years ago that Kym made the life-changing decision to adopt Joshua after his mother handed him over to the system shortly after giving birth. “My phone rang and a woman asked, ‘Are you Kym Whitley?’ ‘Yes,’ I responded. ‘This is the hospital and we have a baby here for you. The lady [on] the other end [of the phone] began to explain how a young woman that I had mentored told them that she wanted me to have her newborn son. I politely asked for a week or so to think about it. The woman responded, ‘You have an hour and a half.'”
Joshua is Kym Whitley’s first child. He is featured every week on ‘Raising Whitley,’ which airs on Oprah’s OWN network.
