Candace Parker rang in the new year at her Alma Mater as the University of Tennessee retired her college jersey on January 2, 2014. The WNBA star had her daughter, Lailaa, by her side who looked on in awe as her mom was rewarded. Lailaa stole the spotlight from mom, signing autographs like a pro as Candace proudly stood by.
“It means a lot to me,” said Candace to fans. “It truly hit me this afternoon when I was explaining to my 4-year-old daughter what tonight was. I asked her, ‘Lailaa, what’s tonight?’, and she said, ‘Mommy, your number three is going in the sky.’ And I said ‘yeah’ with a laugh.”
This isn’t the first time Lailaa shared the spotlight with mom. The little one asked where her medal was when Candace won an award at the Olympics in 2012. “She asked me where the smaller [medal] was for her,” said Parker. “We’ll have to try and get her one.”
Candace began her trails as an athlete for the University of Tennessee during the 2005-2006 school year. Lailaa is her first child with husband Shelden Williams.
