Melanie Brown, a.k.a. Mel B, may be fun and energetic but she doesn’t mess around when it comes to rearing her kids in the right direction. The ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge recently told Fox411 that she is a strict mom who teaches her kids to be responsible and respectful.
“I’m very strict,” said Mel. “My kids have been brought up very grounded, they go to public school, they’ve got to tidy their rooms, they’ve got to do their chores to earn their pocket money. That’s how I was brought up.” The star added, “There are some things you don’t mess with. You don’t mess with my shoe closet. You don’t mess with me when I’m in a mood. Besides that we’re all good to go.”
Although she has experienced a bit of criticism from the public because of her relationship with her children’s fathers, Mel B has learned to take everything in stride. “Everything is a learning process,” explained the singer to 411. “I have a beautiful 14 year-old daughter who is very grounded and very into her sports. My six-year old, I call her my whizkid genius, she’s got an imagination to die for. They see their fathers. You make the most out of what you’re dealt in life. I’m not a doom and gloom person. I make light of whatever situation I’m in. I’ve always been like that.”
Brown has one child, Madison, with husband Stephen Belafonte. The singer also has a teen daughter named Phoenix and a little one named Angel from previous relationships with Jimmy Gulzar (Phoenix’s dad) and Eddie Murphy (Angel’s father).
