Laila Ali has learned much from her father and hopes to pass her knowledge on to Sydney and Curtis. The former boxing champion recently sat down with Dr. Freda Lewis-Hall to talk about her father and the many lessons she’s learned from the great Muhammad Ali.
“I think that the greatest lesson I learned from my father is just having compassion towards people,” said Laila during the talk. “My father loves people; no matter what their race, no matter what their position in life [is]. He treated everybody with kindness and love and respect. That was instilled in me, just by watching him.”
Ali also talked about her kids and what she thinks they will glean from their grandfather’s legacy. “I just think about when they actually figure out, and learn and understand, who their grandfather is, it’s going to be amazing because he stood for so much,” explained the star athlete. “Just what he stood for, and to know that that same blood runs through their veins, they’re going to feel so empowered. So I’m excited and I definitely want to be there when they finally (snaps fingers) get it.”
Sydney and Curtis are Laila and husband Curtis Conway’s children. Laila is the youngest daughter of Muhammad Ali. The boxing legend has nine kids in all.
