After getting news of her son’s pool accident and losing her battle for primary custody of him and his little brother, Tameka Raymond is speaking out about the ordeal that nearly cost Usher V his life. The stylist recently sat down with ‘Good Morning America’ to talk about her family, and the day that she got the call that any mother yearns never to receive.
“I was at a dental appointment and [Usher] doesn’t call me regularly so when I saw his number come up I immediately jumped up because I figured, ‘He has the boys. I need to get this,” said Tameka. “I was mad [to hear about Usher V’s pool accident] because I was like, ‘How did this happen? Who was watching him? Why was my son underwater for nearly three minutes?'”
The stylist went on to say, “I didn’t blame [Usher] for it. I just was angry that it happened on his watch because while accidents happen, never have my children been injured on my watch. When the incident happened, my attorney filed an emergency motion so that when my son was released from the hospital he was wasn’t going to have to go back to the house where the incident happened. Based on our custody schedule, just like now, my son was released into his father’s care again. I deemed that an emergency.”
Although the judge didn’t see things Tameka’s way and hence allowed Usher to retain full custody of his sons, the mother of five is still hopeful that she will one day gain the first Right of Refusal which will bring her kids home when Usher is on tour.
Usher V nearly drowned when his arm got caught in the pool’s drain on August 5, 2013. He is the eldest of Usher and Tameka’s two sons.
