Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman on Sunday, February 26, 2012 while walking back to a family member’s house in Sanford, Florida. Although some have deemed the deadly shooting as self defense on Zimmerman’s part, many are outraged at the watchman’s actions on a 17-year-old boy who had nothing more than a bag of candy and cell phone in hand.
Zimmerman began to follow Trayvon when he deemed the teenager suspicious. According to George there had been a number of burglaries in the area and Martin appeared to be walking in a daze as if he were up to no good. After being admonished by the 911 dispatcher not to follow the teenager, George claims that he was en route back to his car when Trayvon attacked him. Having no other option, Zimmerman fatally shot Martin and waited for police to arrive.
Since no one actually saw the altercation between the two it is difficult to deem Zimmerman’s story false. There are, however, several 911 tapes from various residents who heard the altercation and one of them has a person screaming for help in the background. While the Sanford Police Department and a few others have coined Zimmerman as the one screaming, many individuals say that the frantic cries are from Trayvon.
Listen to the tape and tell us what you think. Is Trayvon screaming for help or are those the cries of 28-year-old Zimmerman? Do you think that Zimmerman is guilty of murder or was he acting in self defense? What are you thoughts with the way that the case is being handled by the Sanford Police Department?
