Singer Toni Braxton is partnering with SheKnows.com to fight autism. She and the media outlet will collect socks in hopes of spreading awareness about the disorder.
When asked about initial feelings when she learned that her son Diezel,8, had the disorder Braxton said, “I felt sorry for myself for a long time and I blamed myself. I thought it was something I had done. Friends came to me, that are like me, and said ‘Okay, you’re not a victim, our babies are great, they’re fine, get him into these therapies.”
“Early diagnosis makes a lifetime of difference,” Braxton adds. “We have him in occupational therapy, speech therapy, he’s being mainstreamed [and] he’s in public school, general ed. He does have his special ed therapies, but we are very, very lucky.”
Although there are many organizations that spread awareness about autism, Toni decided to partner with SheKnows.com because she found the site to be very helpful in dealing with her son’s diagnosis. Braxton along with the media outlet hope to generate funds to spread knowledge about the disorder.
