Skye Townsend,18, may not be a household name yet but this rising star is a fashionista in her own right. The singer and 8 Days a Week actress recently sat down with Vogue to discuss her sense of fashion and environmental influences that have shaped her style.
Personal style and environmental influences.
“I would describe my style as ‘me’. My surroundings are my style influences. My mother and sister, Los Angeles and my Native American background. My mother and sister taught me that there isn’t just one style. And the city I reside, Los Angeles, is all about the hippie laid-back look where mixing and matching of seasonal pieces is allowed. Only in LA do you see winter boots and a scarf with a crop top and denim shorts. I am guilty of this. Not to forget about my Native-American background that makes me opt for Native-American prints, beaded jewellery, printed ponchos and my favorite pair of shoes are my moccasins.”
Earliest fashion memory.
“I remember not being able to learn how to tie my shoes. One day, I came across my mother’s lace-up heels. I was determined to put them on. I spent hours sitting there and teaching myself how to tie the laces just so that they’d look right. Hours later, I succeeded by myself. A cute pair of shoes can always motivate you to get the job done.”
First fashionista moment.
“I first felt like a fashionista when people were constantly submitting my photos for fashion blogs. I never considered myself one before, because I simply dressed like myself. I love inspiring people to take risks with what they wear.”
Current work in fashion.
“Besides signing and acting, I run an at-home photography business. I style all of the looks and use unique pieces to reinvent outfits or transform peoples images. I enjoy pulling my own pieces and combining them with the client’s wardrobe to create a new ensemble.”
Future dreams in fashion.
“I eventually would like to create a line that reflects my personal style. I’d create pieces for all of the risk takers and funky artists. I would also love to own a store out in the Los Angeles area.”
