Up-and-coming music artists Chloe,13, and Halle,11, Bailey are making waves in the YouTube world. Contrary to some YouTube stars who gain attention for all the wrong reasons, the Baileys are rising to the top because of their dynamic singing abilities. The teen duo recently conducted an interview with Edge to discuss their vocal gifts and popularity on YouTube.
When asked about singing abilities Chloe says, “I would always sing around the house and I loved being in front of the camera and so it grew from there. Our parents are there for us every step of the way in everything from taking us to the studio or to auditions even teaching us song structure. They are being our stepping-stones and helping us to reach new heights.” Halle also commented, “When I was little I just loved to copy everything Chloe did and one day she was singing and I started singing with her and it all took off from there. We realized we both had a talent for singing and we kept going with it.”
While popular in the public eye, the girls have only been posting on YouTube for a few months. As Chloe explains, “We just started about 2 or 3 months ago. Our first cover was Beyonce’s “Best Thing I Never Had”. We heard that song and we loved it so we decided to post it and it got around. We were really excited and happy because the feedback was phenomenal.”
In discussing musical influences Halle states, “Of course I love Beyonce and Michael Jackson but as far as my older musical influences I love Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. They’re great, great singers. I also really love Bruno Mars.”
Although they are new to the industry, Chloe and Halle understand that they have a responsibility as young artists. As Chloe explains, “Our responsibility as young artists is to be role models to young girls out there because I feel like there’s not many positive influences for girls our age. Another thing is to simply bring real music back because it’s been pushed aside by electronics and party music. People need that real talent and singing ability. That’s what someone like Adele is doing because she has such a beautiful and pure voice—that’s what we should all be doing.” Stay tuned for Chloe and Halle’s next big break.
