Aiko’s lyrics are caught up in the possibility of the unimaginable occurring. The singer needs to know that her daughter would survive if anything were to happen to her. This is where Namiko comes in and tells her mom, “I promise I’ll be alright” if anything happens.<\/p>\n

Jhene explained the significant meaning behind ‘Promises’ prior to her newest album’s release. “It\u2019s something I wanted to leave her, if we\u2019re not together for any reason, just something she could always listen to, even when she gets older,” said<\/a> the recording artist. “It\u2019s just about letting her know that everything will be okay even if I can\u2019t always be there.”<\/p>\n

The singer also wrote the song in memory of her brother who passed away two years ago. “[I’m] singing to him, letting him know that I\u2019m okay, that he\u2019ll never have to worry about me.”<\/p>\n
