Move over Disney’s Incredibles! There is a new family in town and they are called the “hip-hop Incredibles”.
“I got the Partridge Family. I got the hip-hop Incredibles,” says singer Erykah Badu about her children Seven,12(his dad is Andre 3000); Puma,5,( her dad is rapper the D.O.C.; and Baby Mars,1,(her dad is rapper Jay Electronica).
Erykah’s incredible family also includes her siblings and her mother.
“They do all kinds of things,” Badu, says of her entire family. “The whole family. My sister sings background for me. My brother is on the road with me; he does [merchandise]. He also writes. He’s helped me write a couple songs. He was a writer on ‘Danger’ and a whole bunch of different things. My mother has given me pointers on what to do and what not to do — mostly what not to do. My children, Mars [is] 1. If she bobs her head [to one of my songs], I know it’s the joint. Puma sings with me; she’ll be on this album. Seven is a lot like Andre 3000, his father. If he gives the nod of approval, then I know it’s the joint. He may be playing drum machine on this album too.”
Erykah’s latest album, New Amerykah, Part Two: Return of the Ankh, comes out on March 30th.
