First Lady Michelle, her mother Marian Robinson, and her daughters Malia,10, and Sahsa,7, celebrated Black History month at the East Room of the White House yesterday(February 18th). The First Lady invited 7th and 8th graders to the White House to attend a Black History month program. At the program, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke to the 200 or so children about Black History Month and the important steps that African Americans have made in American history. The children were also treated to music from Sweet Honey in the Rock, an award-winning female a cappella ensemble.
